FAQ #79: How do I submit art?
If you encounter any problems, please contact the +helpdesk, ask in the Help Forum or in the live help chat, #help (please see the section on Chat/dAmn for information on how to use chat/dAmn).
No. There are some limits on what art is acceptable and what is not.
Nudity: No deviation may contain two people explicitly having sex. Nude images of men must not have an erect penis.
Minors (under the age of 18): No nude or suggestive images of minors.
Copyrighted materials: You may not submit anything that contains copyrighted material. This includes images you found through the Google Image Search or any other search engine's image search. These images are copyrighted to someone, whether or not it is explicitly stated on the website containing that image. You may not submit deviations that contain copyrighted images even if the site says that the images are for free use. Basically, if it's all your own work, you're good to go on submitting it. Images exempt from this policy are ones found through deviantART's Stock Photo Gallery. When using Stock Photos, be sure to abide by the deviant's rules regarding use of their stock.
Go to Browse. This will take you to a page that shows you all of the most recently submitted deviations.
To change what type of submissions you're viewing, select the Categories drop down menu and pick the Gallery you want to view. A drop down menu of Subcategories will appear automatically. To browse through a specific Subcategory, select the drop down menu and pick the Subcategory you wish to view. You can also change how you view the submissions: by thumbnail or list, the number of thumbnails displayed per page, when the deviations were submitted and by newest first, oldest first or most favourites.
Interact with the community! This doesn't mean just submit art. This means get out onto the Forums and into dAmn, but most importantly, leave comments on other deviants' deviations. In depth comments are more likely to get you noticed than single word or single emoticon comments; in depth comments are also generally more appreciated, but pay attention as to whether or not the deviation is marked "Critique Discouraged", "Critique Welcome" or "Critique Encouraged". Many deviants intensely dislike getting serious critiques when the deviation is marked "Critique Discouraged". On top of commenting, you can use the Thumbshare Forum and the #thumbshare chatroom on dAmn.
